Continued Growth in Faculty Scholarship Support
The Office of the Provost is committed to supporting faculty scholarship in all its forms across the humanities, social sciences, business, education, science, engineering and the health sciences. The Office of the Provost is pleased to have coordinated and overseen an increase in funding for faculty development and scholarship in recent years.
Given COVID-19 and the variety of challenges it brought, internal faculty grant awards were not funded during 2020. 2021 brought a renewed vigor in supporting faculty research and a number of faculty projects have been funded.

For the academic year 2019-2020, the total funds distributed for faculty development and scholarship were over $500,000. In addition, the increase in funding has resulted in an increase in the number of faculty being supported. Combined, funding for 2019-2020 was provided to 99 full-time faculty members across all five Schools.

Funding comes from established funding and grant programs (Faculty Development Grants, Provost Innovation Fund, Murray Fellowship, Davis Educational Foundation, CETL Fellows, Sakowich Charitable Foundation, McLaughlin-Martin Family Environmental Innovation Fund, Zampell Family Faculty Fellowship Program) as well as supplemental support for faculty scholarship. The Office of the Provost also provided additional funding to Faculty Development Grants in order to support a larger number of projects. The result of the expanded faculty portfolio of funding is that faculty can participate in a deeper and more diverse pool of funding opportunities to support their work.
While we are excited to be able to provide scholarship funding for the faculty, we can do even more together. We have growing opportunities to explore new funding partners, better communicate the exciting and diverse array of scholarship activities by our faculty both internally and externally, and expand research, scholarship, and creative activity opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students. We look forward to partnering with the faculty to help them pursue their creative interests and passions.
